WELCOME TO MY BLOG

My Photo
I find it hard to believe that seven years have passed since I made the decision to pursue my dream of becoming a photographer. Even though it has been challenging, I have thoroughly enjoyed every minute. I have had some amazing clients to photograph, and have made some lifelong friends. When the photos session is over, I can't wait to get home and upload the photos to see what I was able to capture. I love the finished product. A few years ago, I began blogging but have fallen behind in this area. I promise I will try to dedicate more time to my blog, so others can get to know the wonderful clients I am photographing. Many of them have interesting stories to tell. I also think it is interesting to see how couples met, and of their plans for the future. I am available most days to photograph you and your loved ones. Message or call for an appointment. View more on my website at http://brendakingphotography.com.

Cooper's Arrival

I recently posted maternity photos taken of Halee and Brandon, and wanted to update everyone.  Cooper arrived into this world on the morning of March 17, 2011 (St. Patrick's Day).  My daughter and I arrived at Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte around 8:15 am that morning.  We sat with the family in the waiting area that looked out over the beautiful Charlotte skyline.  We all made small talk, but our thoughts were with Halee, Brandon and baby Cooper, and his delivery.  After what seemed like forever, Brandon arrived with the largest smile on his face, and some wonderful news.  Cooper Thomas Whitesides was born, weighing in at 10 lbs 2 ozs.  He was breathing on his own, and had good color. One of my most favorite photos of the day happened then.  Brandon was immediately attacked with hugs from the grandmothers, ha !  Cooper had defeated the odds.  Physicians had not given the best prognosis for carrying him to term, or of his delivery.  The Great Physician had other plans for baby Cooper though.

Halee was kept in recovery for a while, then moved to the NICU where Cooper was.  The NICU was so wonderful in allowing me in with my camera to document Halee and Brandon with Cooper, as well as family viewing him for the first time.  I feel so blessed to have been a part of their special day, and to witness the immediate LOVE everyone had for Cooper.  I loved the way his mother kept saying how good he smelled, ha !  I was also in awe of the staff, and how well they explained things to Halee and Brandon.  Cooper was born with an encephalocele, and would need surgery the next day, to repair it.  So many people had been praying for this family for a long time.  They had now jumped many hurdles, but had another hurdle to jump.  The next afternoon, Cooper went into surgery, where the surgeons were able to do the repair without doing a skin graft.  He was put on a vent for a while, but has since come off the vent, and is doing well.  He is eating well, raising his head, and making noises.  God is so good !!!!

Please continue to remember this wonderful family in your prayers !  Halee is to be released from the hospital today, and they will be staying with family in Charlotte for a while.  Brandon has to return to work at the end of the week, so that could make things difficult for them.

I look forward to the day when I am able to visit Cooper, and hold him.  I probably need to be working out with arm weights though, lol !  I know God has great things in store for Cooper !!!!

These are a few photos I took from throughout the day !!!!

Awaiting Cooper's Arrival

A precious couple, whose wedding I photographed in 2009, are expecting a bundle of joy in a little over a week.  Halee and Brandon Whitesides were married in October 2009 at a beautiful historical home in Morganton.  I got to know them pretty well by doing their engagement photos, bridals, and the wedding photos.  I have stayed in touch with them through facebook, which seems to be the way of communication these days, lol !  When I heard they were expecting a baby boy, I was so happy for them.  Soon after they found out they were expecting, they were told baby Cooper had a neural tube defect. Of course, they were initially in shock.  Halee has documented their journey and challenges by writing a journal at caringbridge.org.  I have eagerly awaited new posts in the journal, and have enjoyed reading about Cooper's progress.

About a month ago, I was blessed to do maternity photos with Halee and Brandon.  We took them at the library where Halee works. I will be posting a few of the photos below. Cooper is scheduled to be delivered by c-section next week, March 17, at Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte.  I will be traveling to Charlotte early that morning to take photos soon after the birth.  I am so excited to be able to document this special time in their lives, and to finally meet baby Cooper.  I am certain he is going to be one spoiled little boy, ha !  Everyone please keep them all in your prayers.
